| | | | | | | This type of knot is known as a "sheet bend". It is perhaps the simplest way to securely join two ropes, especially when they are of different thicknesses. A friend asked if knots are symbolic of some type of inner turmoil or restriction. I don't think I do see knots in terms of "knotted up inside". They have other associations for me, such as linking, climbing, sailing, and surviving. I also find them fascinating from a physical-mechanical-geometric angle. I like that when I look at a sheet bend I can see how it works, which makes me feel like I understand a tiny part of the world. | | | | | |
